Small Intimate Wedding for Karen and Sean!

Sunday, June 22, 2014

June 20, 2014 is the date Karen and Sean chose to get married. They had considered using my garden but the logistics to coordinate their apartment clubhouse just did not pan out. It was a good thing though due to the weather.
The afternoon was  filled with pop-up showers and just as Karen and her dad were coming from her apartment to the club house they got caught in one of the showers. Rain on the wedding day is considered good luck. Some believe the rain drops are God's happy tears. Others believe that the rain is a cleansing of the relationship to begin the new marriage.
After the bride handed off her bouquet, I invited the guests to come in closer to us.
A warm welcome to all and a prayer from First Corinthians to honor Sean's Christian heritage.
Like many good love stories, Karen and Sean's began over 10 years ago when they were both seniors in college in Ohio. From the beginning they found that they have similar values and really like each other! They are a good fit and can talk about anything and everything. The relationship blossomed into love somewhere along the line and they ended up in North Carolina. They always knew they would marry and today was that day surrounded by the people most dear to them. Karen's sister, Allison, was even with us via the internet while physically stationed in Afghanistan!
"With this ring I marry you and pledge my heart to you!"
Explaining the breaking of the glass.....to honor Karen's Jewish heritage.
 The pronouncement of marriage........
 "Mazel Tov!"
 Ah, the kiss!
The shower had passed by the time the ceremony was over and left the grounds glistening clean and fresh! What a lovely couple you are, Karen and Sean! My best wishes for a very happy marriage!

Jennifer and Ken Wed at The Umstead Hotel and Spa!

Friday, June 13, 2014

Jennifer and Ken wanted a small intimate ceremony surrounded by their families, including their kids. They chose the beautiful Umstead Hotel and Spa for the occasion and we all gathered together there the morning of June 7, 2014.
They chose two of their children to sign their marriage license as witnesses (there is no age restriction on the witnesses) and we got that done before we went outside for the ceremony. (The marriage license is signed by the officiant after the wedding--never before.)
Carrie, the catering manager hosting this wedding, led us down through the garden then out around the lake.
The waterspout is always on and looks so festive. It was a beautiful morning.
There are many secluded areas on the hotel property and Carrie took us to a spot where there were stairs so that we could stand on the steps and be easily seen by the guests standing on the boardwalk.
It was very private and we were surrounded by the lush foliage. Brittany Hines was on hand as their photographer.
It was a brief ceremony and customized to what Jennifer and Ken told me they wanted. We honored the parents and their children and remembered those that were not with us.
After the vows they exchanged rings.
The pronouncement.....
Congratulations, Jennifer and Ken! I wish you the very best forever!

Destination Wedding to The Umstead Hotel and Spa for Judi and Bryan!

Thursday, December 26, 2013

Bryan and Judi live in South Carolina. They planned a wedding there but at the last minute there was a problem with the venue so they decided to elope and get married on Christmas Day at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary. Bryan had been here before and just loved it and knew it would be a great getaway. Kelley Anne at The Umstead gave him my name and number and he called me the week before Christmas to arrange it. It was short notice but since I live only about 15 minutes away, I was happy to go there and do the honors for them on Christmas Day. They had gotten their marriage license in SC but alas, it is not good in NC so they needed to get here a few days early to get their license in NC. Wisely they stopped in Charlotte and got it there on the way to Raleigh and were all set.
When Marty and I arrived at The Umstead, it was gorgeously appointed as usual and the floral arrangements stunning and reflecting the joyous holiday season.
Pine cones, Frazier fir branches and antlers!
Beautiful Christmas tree! We would have done the ceremony here but it was busy in the lobby.
So we moved on down the hallway to a very quiet area where there was no traffic on this Christmas Day at noon and more Christmas trees.
They had previewed the proposed ceremony I emailed them and loved it and did not want to change a thing.
 The vows.....
The rings....Bryan's ring was tight but Judi finally got it all the way on his finger!
I now pronounce you husband and wife!
Sealing the vows with a kiss!
Judi and Bryan, I am so glad you called me and gave me the honor of joining you in matrimony! I wish you safe travels and a wonderful married life!

Chilly But Warm Wedding for Elise, Michael and Maverick!

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Michael and Elise are high school sweethearts who have stayed together as opposed to many couples I have been marrying lately who went their separate ways then found each other again many years later. It is refreshing to have this young couple who know for sure what they want and whom they love and want to spend the rest of their lives with.

Michael emailed me 6 days before their wedding:  "This coming Thursday, my fiancé and I are planning to go to the court house to get married. We recently stumbled upon your website and wanted to see if there was any possibility you might be available to officiate our wedding Thursday afternoon [December 12] at Fred Fletcher park (weather permitting). We are flexible with our timing and super laid back. We know this is quite a bit of a stretch but thought there was no harm in asking. We have our families coming to be a part of our celebration and would love to make this event more special than just the court house. We would love to make the ceremony more personal and include our four legged child, Maverick our beagle in our ceremony as well. "

Thursdays are not heavy wedding days, especially in December, so I was delighted that I was available and would love to officiate for them. They came to see me the next evening and we put the wheels in motion, quickly!
Michael's father, Roberto, flew in from Puerto Rico for this wonderful occasion. He was in charge of Maverick during the ceremony.
This December day was bright and sunny and a bit chilly at about 48 degrees. But, Elise was so primed for this day, I don't think she was at all cold!
Her father, Michael, was more than proud to escort her down the steps into the circle of stones where the ceremony took place.
Their guests, including the rest of their parents, and a few friends were eagerly awaiting the bride.
Michael and I found a spot where the sun did not shine directly into our eyes. Their photographer Tara Lynn with InBetween the Blinks Photography was busy getting some good shots of Elise and her father approaching us.
Elise mopped up a few tears that leaked out and then they faced their families as I read a tribute to them.
Michael and Elise are the owners and operators of Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming which have two locations, one in Cary and one in North Hills.  Maverick is their "furry 4-legged child" and they wrote a blessing for him for the ceremony: "Maverick came into their lives in the fall of 2010 and has nuzzled his way into their hearts forever. It is Maverick who has taught them things about life and things about love that only a dog’s unconditional love can teach. His loyalty to Michael and Elise is unparalleled and his love unmatched. Whether it be the time he ate his dad’s favorite pair of shoes, his uncontrollable howl, or his ability to double in weight while on top of the covers… Michael and Elise’s love for Maverick has only grown stronger. Without Maverick, Michael and Elise would not be where they are today. We would like to take this time to honor Maverick and the special role he has had in completing this family."
They said their vows and exchanged rings then I pronounced them husband and wife.
Michael and Elise, what a joy to be a part of your special day. I am so happy you stumbled across me on line and stuck your neck out and contacted me. It was meant to be! I wish you all the best and I will see you around at one of your stores sometimes!
